Waking Nights Project Support Workers required for highly rewarding and compassionate, charitable service here in Swindon. These opportunities are based on a rotating 7 day a week contract, with hours of work between 20.00 to 08.00. An attractive rate of pay is offered. As these are night positions, applicants must be willing and able to commit to working a permanent night shift, due to safeguarding requirements and for the needs of our guests.

Swindon Night Shelter is a registered charity who partners with Swindon Borough Council to provide temporary winter housing to those in need of help. As winter is just around the corner, we now seek additional staff to work on short term contracts, based at The Haven, Queens Drive, Swindon. Our vision is to be able to offer a safe, warm and secure place to spend the night for anyone over the age of 18 who has nowhere else to sleep. Afterall everyone needs to be accepted and treated with dignity. In a world of homelessness, addiction, fear, rejection and marginalisation the Swindon Night Shelter aims to come alongside the needy to show that somebody does care.

The role of Waking Nights Project Support Worker centres upon supporting our guests to develop skills needed to enable them to settle back into safe and social living. Working with a number of adults, all with very different life stories, behaviours and life challenges, you will have time to get to know and understand their individual needs, therefore promoting and delivering a range of practical and life-skills training to encourage engagement and interaction much needed in todays’ society.

You will be responsible for ensuring that all guests are made to feel safe and respected, allowing valuable time to assess each and every situation, which could include managing crisis, helping to build confidence, resistance and coping strategies. Naturally you will receive the very best training and coaching, learning whilst ‘on-the-job’ and through experienced support staff, however we are hoping to attract applicants with an understanding of homelessness, employment, health and safety and safeguarding skills and work experience.

As a Waking Nights Project Support Worker, you will have a caring, professional and approachable personality, supported by plenty of ‘life’ skills plus the ability to manage many different challenges, many of which are of an emotional nature. The need to have a good sense of humour, with plenty of social skills will make for a huge success in this highly rewarding job role.

To apply for these positions, you will be able to provide satisfactory employment references, the Right to Work in The UK and be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS Disclosure in light of safeguarding requirements.
