As a Project Officer (Community Involvement) you will who bring your experience of managing relationships within Community organisations, groups and individuals who want to make a difference to refugees arriving on the “Homes for Ukraine scheme” and their hosts, working for a council where we put Swindon and its people at the heart of everything we do.

Working with several key functionality teams - Adults, Housing and Health (Public Health) your knowledge of Community assets, Community Development, safeguarding, multi-agency engagement, evidenced based decisions and relationship building makes you our ideal candidate. This is a full time, fixed term contract role which offers a good salary and attractive employee benefits. You will work as part of the wider community team, focused on the management of a key refugee project supporting Ukrainians in Swindon.

The key objective is to establish and deliver a Swindon-wide community involvement project which seeks to bring together community action, develop and grow community connections, increase opportunities for volunteering and participation and ultimately improve the health and wellbeing of Swindon residents. There will be a particular focus on building stronger community cohesion as a means of raising aspirations and reducing health inequality. This role will work closely with local community and voluntary groups, organisations, charities and individuals to generate interest and support to address local needs. An example of this work would be to facilitate positive local action in support of Refugees and Asylum seekers arriving to Swindon.

For the role of Project Officer you will need sound knowledge of health, social care and voluntary and community sector services/networks in Swindon and an understanding of the boundaries of confidentiality and safeguarding. A working knowledge of Public Health principles and practices, gained within a health, social care or voluntary and community sector environment, with experience of using coaching and/or motivational interviewing or similar techniques. To work collaboratively with other workers/agencies in order to coordinate health promotion activity and delivering community engagement, knowledge of recruiting, training and managing volunteers with sound IT knowledge and skills, specifically Microsoft, including Excel. Excellent written and communication skills are required.
