Headway Swindon is an independent local charity (registration no. 1021036) that is affiliated to Headway UK – the brain injury association. We provide support to people affected by brain injury in Swindon and surrounding areas.
We provide specialist services, cognitive rehabilitation, and information to adults who have suffered an acquired brain injury (through accident or injury), along with their family and carers. Headway Swindon primarily operates as a day centre however some work is also undertaken in the community.
The charity will be starting a 2-year project in July 2022 to evaluate the most effective support for brain injury survivors within the locality. This is with a view to a longer-term funding arrangement.
To support brain injury survivors to improve their independence and live well by improving their cognitive abilities. This will involve guiding staff in the preparation and planning of person-centred activities to deliver defined outcomes and goals, including group sessions and 1:1 support. As a key member of the management team you will be closely involved in developing the specification for a future service to meet the needs of brain injury survivors, and their families, in the Swindon area.
Service Management: -
Operational responsibility for all day services ensuring they meet the needs of clients, funders and quality standards.
Ensure evidence is gathered and recorded to demonstrate the effectiveness of the service
Monitor, evaluate and develop the service together with the management team
Ensure compliance with Headway UK quality standards, health and safety requirements and service level agreements.
Review and implement policies and procedures
Staff Management: -
Management of the team to deliver a cognitive rehabilitation programme
Provide regular supervision and appraisals for the rehabilitation team
Ensure roles and expectations are clear, and appropriate action is taken if individuals fail to meet expected behavioural or performance standards
Develop a good team culture, supporting and motivating the team.
Client Support: -
Overall responsibility for the welfare of Headway Swindon clients
Oversee the referral process for new clients, and conduct initial meetings
Assess clients using the Brain Injury Needs Indicator (BINI), with input from their carer and keyworker
Develop a varied programme of activities that are aligned with individual client goals and outcomes
Monitor client progress and highlight issues to the CEO
Liaise with families, carers and health professionals as required.
Ensure that the clients individual rights and choices are actively promoted and supported and their beliefs and preferences appropriately acknowledged.
Bring to the attention of the CEO, immediately, any problems that need their attention
Maintain a flexible approach to working patterns and duties
Support occasional awareness, fundraising and social events
Carry out any other duties that may reasonably be required
