Can you provide Evening Support to Swindon’s Temporary Winter Housing Service, if so we have a number of short term contracts, based at Swindon Night Shelter, The Haven, Queens Drive. These positions cover the hours of 17.00 – 20.30 (Monday to Sunday), therefore flexibility is needed to ensure cover is always provided. We offer excellent rates of pay and a great team working ethic.
For those of us fortunate enough to have a warm and secure place to live, just think of those less fortunate, those who have no warm bed or get to eat a regular meal. That’s why we need you as an Evening Support Worker to greet and support our guests, those who are homeless and in urgent need of help and support. It’s all about building strong relationships with the guests and the staff, working as part of a team to encourage social interaction and help to build much needed confidence and support to promote safe and social living.
Swindon Night Shelter offers a safe place for guests to learn practical and emotional skills, to give them a place to live, a bed to sleep in, a hot meal and the chance to mix with others and interact in a range of activities all intended to develop and increase day to day living skills. Your role as Evening Support Worker will encounter many different challenges, those who have behavioural issues, those who seek emotional support and those who may be struggling with addiction.
Ideally your career to-date will evidence proven working knowledge of managing homelessness, working in housing or supported living hubs, working with vulnerable adults and assistance with the benefits programme. You will have plenty of common sense, combined with exceptional communication skills, integrity and respect for the needs of others, taking time to listen, to care and encourage best life skills.
Excellent training is provided, working with fully trained and knowledgeable staff, all of which have worked in the homelessness sector for many years. To apply for these positions, you will need to provide satisfactory employment references, have the Right to Work in The UK and be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS Disclosure.
